One thing that our US tax dollar buys is websites on all types of topics. These websites are not always the best looking, but if you just start clicking on links, it is no telling what you will find. Here are some websites courtesy of Uncle Sam:
FirstGov.gov - www.firstgov.gov - This is where the government wants you to come to get to them. There are a lot of neat things here.
FedWorld - www.fedworld.gov - a collection of some of the more popular government sites, such as, Job Search, IRS Forms, Supreme Court Decisions, etc.
Government Printing Office - www.gpoaccess.gov - free government publications on all kinds of topics
Library of Congress - www.loc.gov - comprehensive card catalog and other features, like webcasts.
FBI's FOIA - http://foia.fbi.gov - FOIA stands for Freedom of Information Act. Here you will find records that were kept on famous people and organizations.
U.S. Department of State's FOIA - www.foia.state.gov - same as above but from a different agency.
U.S. Historical Documents Archive - www.ushda.org - a collection of U.S. historical documents.
CIA - www.cia.gov - there are a few interesting items here, like the World Factbook.
